Viva Volley

Volleyball every Thursdays on my calendar!

This forth-coming Thursday will officially be my sixth volleyball training since I begun this academic year. Just like badminton club after school, I decided to try out for volleyball club as well! I initially heard about this training through my sports teacher and badminton coach, Mr Schneider, as he knows I would be most eager for sport classes outside school hours. From there on, I simply contacted my new volleyball coach and supervisor, Mr Wessely, and asked to participate in the trainings on Thursdays. Volleyball is the sport that I have recently learned to play, as I began playing for the past three years only during P.E. lessons.

I have chosen to challenge this as a CAS activity because I have never played volleyball properly with its regulations in a full match before. Thus I believe it will serve as a purposeful activity and I will ultimately reach significant outcomes through it.

I am already aware of my strengths in volleyball however I still have a lot to learn from. Additionally, there are always new tricks to attempt at and use.

It will also ameliorate my organisation skills for I now have to balance school work with social and family time as well as badminton trainings!

Moreover, I will develop more stamina and better motor control in my body. In fact, playing volleyball regularly improves the muscular system for it ‘strengthens the upper body, arms and shoulders, as well as the muscles of the thighs and lower legs’ (according to an article I just read a moment ago by LiveStrong.com).

So far, I have enjoyed learning from some students as well as teaching others who have had difficulties with the techniques. In general, every training I attended had been a success and I am hopeful that with an encouraging coach and faithful players, I will play (almost) like a pro towards the end of the school year! Alongside this, I will achieve Learning Outcomes① ② ④ ⑤ ⑥ ⑦ and .

However the most important principle I have learned over the course of the past few weeks in training is - that playing volleyball involves a ceaseless amount of commitment and perseverance!

Looking forward to this Thursday,

Badminton Training Update

Who loves BADMINTON? I know I DO!

For the past month I have been actively participating in Badminton Club trainings after school! This means that I have been on schedule with CAS (YAY!) for I have planned to join the club and have been, and still am, committing to it from the start of the school year.

Here are the five primary reasons why I decided to take part in badminton trainings and use it as a CAS activity:

1. Since I joined my new school half a year ago, I began playing badminton as an extra curricular activity as it has always been my favourite sport! I continue doing this to develop new skills as well as to improve my current ones.

2. I believe it will be a purposeful activity for I will have to dedicate time for weekly trainings and this will thus challenge my time management skills - as I shall have to balance both homework time, family time and badminton training!

3. There will definitely be several significant outcomes: badminton training will increase my SPEED, AGILITY and my STAMINA among others.

4. I will learn to work more collaboratively with many players during singles and double matches and I could also help to improve their skills individually by giving them advice. Additionally, I am the eldest student in the club which makes me even more aware to be a role model for all the younger students.

5. Most importantly, I will hopefully accomplish most of the Learning Outcomes① ② ④ ⑤ ⑥ ⑦  and  throughout the course of the school year as I play continuously.

One VS One

Little me - happy as can be!

I contacted my previous badminton coach and asked if it was possible for a senior to join the after school clubs and he said it most certainly possible (in German)! Herr Schneider will therefore be my supervisor in this activity.

So far I have truly enjoyed every one-and-a-half hour training on Wednesdays after school!

My Reflection Post shall come soon so stay tuned!

WELCOME TO... My CAS Blog!

Dear Readers,

I wish to officially welcome you all to my CAS blog!

First, allow me to clear up any misunderstandings:
   1. The 'IB' in my blog title stands for the International Baccalaureate, an international educational organisation which offers it diploma programme to over a million students world wide (that's in over 140 countries!) (<-- That is according to the official IB Organisation website, on which I accessed on today)
   2. The 'CAS' part represents 'Creativity, Action, Service'. It is essentially part of the three major components which distinguish the International Bac. from any other educational system in the world! This core programme allows students to 'learn experimentally' so to say, i.e. learning by DOING! An IB student must participate in after-school activities which can be either to obtain a new skill or to further develop one which (s)he already has. These activities ought to therefore be either a creative one, a physical one or even one which benefits the local community!

I truly have no doubts that this part of the full diploma programme will be SUPER beneficial to us students! However --> it's supposed to run con-currently with your assignments and coursework! YIKES! Wouldn't that be too much distraction?

Now I am aware that I must learn to organise my time much more efficiently with school work, quality family time, social fun time and CAS! It certainly would not be an easy task but HEY! that is exactly why I am excited and thankful to be at this stage of my life --> where I am allowed (but not always welcomed!) to make mistakes, learn and stand up stronger than I did before!

So here I am! Writing my first piece to post officially onto my new IB CAS blog! In which I will hopefully continuously update as I embark on an adventurous journey in my last two years at school!

Have a nice day!
